Thought of the Week
If you needed to stick two slabs of wood together and may be thinking of tools that may help you achieve that, would you compare the effectiveness of a nail & hammer with a paint & brush? If you are decently coherent, you probably won’t. And there’s no need to explain why: those tools are effective in their own realms.
Despite the logical reasoning, we do something similar with ourselves and the things that happen to us. We often compare ourselves with others. When in the end, it is something like the hammer & brush: we all are effective in our own realms. But even further, we all were given a particular part of the existence (experiences, background, skills, opportunities) that were specifically designed for us to do with them the best we can.
Of course, we may be benefited through the admiration of others’ experiences. But even there, we must remember that they are living their story, and you are living yours. Like a good friend once told me, “History never repeats itself. But it rhymes.”
Let’s then remember to only compare ourselves with our yesterday self.
