Thought of the Week
We should be particularly careful not to place the parameters by which we judge both ourselves and others in the wrong things.
We can all be found in the position of being, as Frank Sinatra says, “a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn, and a king.” Since they all require (and most time fully implies) an external factor from happening. Which we cannot control.
But instead of focusing on that, let’s then return to the things by which we can assess an accurate judgement of our development: the things we can always control.
Things like acting, despite the circumstances, with justice and virtue. To embrace whatever the circumstance that happens for us, as a growth opportunity (not referring to as being “dormant” nor idle; but to accept & then act reasonably). And of course, to own not only our actions, but our thoughts. Never allowing something unreasonable to rampantly gain control of ourselves. But to become, as Seneca once said, “conquerors of ourselves.”
