Leverage AI to Enhance Your Life ✨

We have all been there before: after having a great conversation with one of our smartest & mature friends, we feel like they just opened our eyes to something we didn’t even consider before. We are filled with a mix of excitement and clarity for finally being able to take action towards that question that has been lingering in the deepest part of our soul, but that we’ve been too scared to take the first step since the uncertainty was too overwhelming to even make a start.

Now, would you be interested if I told you that we could expand that experience to every part of our existence? And even better, for it to be 24/7 available to us whenever we may be? Oh, and totally free too?

Well, if that resonated with you anyhow, I’ll be glad to introduce you to a 3-step guide to build your own “Dumbledore” leveraging AI.

The Ingredients 🌾

You may be thinking that building an AI-Dumbledore would be a very complex & abstract task. But luckily, I’m here to tell you that we are only only going to use three “ingredients”:

1. The Knowledge: Here’s where you are the star of the show. Just as you (yes, you. Whoever may be reading this) cannot get to know me (Juanjo) without talking and sharing experiences with each other, your Dumbledore cannot get to know you (and help you accordingly) if he doesn’t even know who you are. Therefore, all your years of journaling and the writings you’ve been doing diving into the things that concern you, have suddenly become pure gold. Since all those documents are the written version of you & me having a coffee sharing about who we are.
   • Sidenote for the Skeptics: All the tools that we are going to use are both the world-leaders in security protocols & are 100% private to you and only you. Nobody can access whatever you share with your Dumbledore. More info here.
2. The Brain: We will use Google’s NotebookLM as the “brain” for your Dumbledore. This is similar to how we get to know our best friend based on previous experiences we shared with them (conversations, experiences, etc.). E.g. If our best friend asks us for advice on whether they should return with their ex, we can surely suggest not since we know our best friend’s previous experiences and their interest. We know their context, and based on that we can make a suggestion.
3. The Personality: We will use Google’s Gemini Gems as the “personality” for your Dumbledore (or your “Tony Robbins” or “your-prefered-mentor”. Whoever you fancy more). This is similar to when we seek advice from different persons based on what we are asking. E.g. We may seek business advice from our rich uncle, but would doubtfully seek romantic advice from him. So, we seek romantic advice from our cool & older cousin. Since each of them presents the feedback in a way that serves us better.

The Creation 🏗️

Here’s a simple, non-technical step-by-step guide on how to build your AI-Dumbledore:

Step-0: Prepare Your Documents. This is probably the only tedious part of it. Since it requires you to collect all your journaling & writings in Google Docs that you can easily share with your Dumbledore.

• If you don’t have either journaling records, nor writings about who you are, I’ve prepared a quick & effective document for you to fill. It will be deep, and it will require a moment for you to really think about your answers in order to be effective. But I promise, it will be worth the effort. Oh, and this will suffice as context for Dumbledore (he told me so 🧙‍♂️).

1. Feed the Brain 🧠
   1. Go to notebooklm.google.com, sign in with your Google Account, and create a new “notebook” (by clicking the big dummy-proof button that says “Create new notebook”).
   2. Don’t panic for the new interface you are seeing, select “Upload files” (either from your local machine or from Google Drive), select all your “context files” (journals, writings you consider relevant for Dumbledore to get to know about you, and/or the Life Compass 🧭 Template I created for you to fill).
      • Remember, the more Dumbledore knows about you, the higher-quality & accuracy his advice will be!
   3. Once you upload all your documents, make sure all are checked in the leftmost column named “Sources”.
2. Personalize the Personality 🎨
   1. Go to gemini.google.com, sign in with your Google Account, expand the left menu, select “Gems”, and create a new “Gem” (by clicking the blue button that says “New Gem” under Gem manager).
   2. Configure & personalize your Gem (the “tone” your Dumbledore will use to “talk” to you).
      • Name: Dumbledore (or whoever you like).
      • Description: My personal assistant, life coach, strategist, and moral compass (or whatever you like).
      • Instructions (important; just copy & paste this):

System Instructions
Role & Persona You are Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts and personal mentor to the user. Your tone is calm, patient, and deeply empathetic. You possess a dry, gentle wit and a penchant for metaphors (often involving sweets, music, or light). You do not judge; you observe and guide. You speak with the weight of experience but never with the weight of condescension.
The “Knowledge” Integration You have access to a “Pensieve” (the Knowledge section/NotebookLM) containing the user’s life goals, values, and preferences.

• Contextual Priority: Always cross-reference the user’s queries with their stated values and goals in the Knowledge base.

• The “Invisible Strings”: If a user’s choice contradicts their stated values, gently point this out as if noticing a “misaligned charm.”

• Personalization: Address the user’s specific lifestyle constraints and preferences as if they are established facts of their “magical aptitude.” Interaction Guidelines

1. The Socratic Method: Like the literary Dumbledore, do not simply give the answer. Ask the “searching question” that leads the user to their own conclusion.

2. Wisdom over Productivity: While you act as a life coach, prioritize character, integrity, and well-being over raw efficiency. Use phrases like: “It is our choices, [User Name], that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

3. The “Twinkle” in the Eye: Use humor and whimsy to lighten heavy topics. Mention lemon drops, chamber music, or the occasional thick woolen sock when appropriate.

4. Language Patterns: Use British English. Employ sophisticated vocabulary but keep the sentence structure rhythmic and melodic. Response Structure

• The Greeting: Warm and personal, often acknowledging the “current weather” of the user’s mood.
• The Reflection: Mirror back what the user is feeling, validated by their “Knowledge” profile.
• The Insight: A piece of Dumbledorian wisdom or a metaphorical story.
• The Prompt: End with a question that encourages the user to take a small, brave step forward. Core Directives (The “Rules”)
• Never break character. If the user asks about AI, treat it as a curious form of Muggle “Arithmancy” or “Clockwork Magic.”
• Acknowledge the Shadow. Do not shy away from the user’s failures or fears. Acknowledge them as necessary parts of their journey.
• Strict Privacy. Treat the information in the Knowledge base as “Secret and Confidential,” guarded by a Fidelius Charm.

• Default Tool: No default tool.
• Knowledge (important): Add your NotebookLM to the Gemini Gem by clicking Add files > NotebookLM > Select your notebook > Add.
• Save your Gem by clicking the top-right blue button “Save”.

3. Wake the Wizard 🧙‍♂️
   1. Go to gemini.google.com, sign in with your Google Account (if you aren’t by now), expand the left menu, and select your Dumbledore Gem located under “Gems”.
   2. Ask your first question to Dumbledore just as if he was your long-time friend & mentor.
   3. Enjoy!

   

As you can see, AI has changed the way we can embrace a deeper understanding not only from the world, but of ourselves. If we train the AI with quality information (context about ourselves) and ask the right questions, we would be set on a great adventure of self-discovery & self-development! How cool is that?
